Keep in mind I used craft paint and epoxy for the bathroom updates. In our bathroom I used the "sponge" method of applying the paint. The guest Bath I flicked the paint on with the paint brush and dab it to get the design.

When I drop the ball, I actually spike the ball out of state! To speed things along I will put in both bathroom updates. We had the Formica outdated color counters. The guest bathroom has a precise fit 17 inches wide. Any new vanity came in 19 in or over. The door opening would not allow anything over the 17inch counter. Keep in mind I used craft paint and epoxy for the bathroom updates. In our bathroom I used the "sponge" method of applying the paint. The guest Bath I flicked the paint on with the paint brush and dab it to get the design. Guest Bathroom below: . The Master Bathroom

Here I am in my new town, house and office - Thinking about the title of this post. Third House and 3 years of marriage. We sure didnt move once a year. We bought the house in Orlando, the grey one for us. We fell in love with the cedar ceilings and because it was a bank owned home we got it a little over price but in abandoned condition. The carpet had to be yanked, interior painted and appliances to move into so we went at it in a fever. We even painted and did an over haul on the outside! In the first 8 months. We began realizing as we came to a "Finished" project we weren't happy living in town, that the house was just to be lived in...........Then we had realtors coming to ask if they could list our home because the demand was in our area and they needed listings. We doubled our money plus a little more and it was a cash buy and out the door in 2 weeks. WE DID NOT HAVE A HOUSE in mind when it sold but our realtor found us a house the same day and we coordinated the move. Bye Bye Orlando.....................Hello Deland, Florida! What I love about this place is it is in a desirable wildlife area, down a one lane road with 4 neighbors and 2.5 acres. I will admit when new neighbor told me about no bird feeders watch your trash that we have bears here I was pondering what I would do if I seen one. Its been 4 months and I only have heard creepy things in the night and I dont go out after dusk. Here's the new project house: The bushes and greenery in front was the first to go. In the back two magnolia trees were growing up against the house and they went too. Grandson is pointing out a broken line but it was no big deal it was a sprinkler system that was being removed. Ever try to remodel with a 3.5 yr old? lol. We had to hault and add a swing to a tree to keep him occupied. Going forward - Snow cap rocks and edging, tinted windows, security screen door. For those who are very sharp the chimney gets painted the weekend! New roof in a couple weeks. End of Today's post. I didnt leave out a house - Family is using it and that one is in Orlando. We over hauled that one in 3 weeks working 6 am to 7pm daily for 3 weeks. No, do NOT want to do that again.
Next post will be a bathroom update that cost under 6.00 to do and looks expensive. I am not a fan of the contractor build flat clipped on bathroom mirrors- I have a Ethan Allen Mirror I need to paint then I'll get the update done and show you. I might even tell you how I got grounded. lol! (Click on above images) You and I probably have this one thing in common - We would NOT want to wear a lampshade as a garment. Do you have a lampshade that is showing wear like an old favorite pair of jeans? Is your lampshade an unusual shape? You may even have a perfectly great lampshade but would like to add an accent color to a room to give it a new look. You might not have to look further then your closet or a friend's closet! I've made this clear on other post - I can NOT sew. I will always look for a non sew approach! This is no different. This is not my original idea but one I found off pintrest and on another's blog. This isn't even my sparkly tank top! I went to goodwill and spotted this for under 3.00. You can use a sweater and the possibilities and colors are endless! As you can see my lampshade was showing imperfection. This lamp was a goodwill find from about 3 weeks ago. I had originally thought about stenciling on it but I still had a seam problem. This picture you can see how I placed the top on the shade. I will cut the lower half off and hot glue the top to the shade. Please share! and Leave a comment! Thank you for stopping by! Let me know where you are from!
I made me an award called "Owner of the UGLIEST Fireplace ever" . As you can see from the photos above we tried to do something. I have been very creative and enjoyed many of our "projects" but this was the stumper. I just remained patient and knew someday my husband and I would come up with the right plan. Many people had suggested painting the brick. If this had been our forever home I could have been persuaded. Still felt the need that any major change needed to be neutral and that would make a new potential homeowner feel that they could live with what we did. That was challenging. The hearth is the bottom block of the fireplace - eyesore! To narrow as well. The mantel is only one brick width- really need I say no more about how UGLY and useless the mantel was? I'll tell you first, the idea came when we were making a "floating shelf" we used shelf brackets. I turned to my husband and asked him if he couldn't do that with a mantel and then the ideas popped. Click on pictures below for more: I apologize the pictures are sideways but its the before and after that is the real pictures you want to see! Don't be in a rush if you have an item or room you want to decorate. Use your list of "Favorites or passions" to create the space that reflects YOU.
When we bought this house I asked my husband what he envisioned. I had to prod him. His first response was I'll provide the money and labor to provide you your palace. I was never about flowers and I had two sons at home (My daughter had already left the nest) and they appreciated more of the "manly Safari look". Now that they are out of the nest - I told hubster he gets to chose. He wanted an Ocean theme. We really love our place and creativity that together we call home. Every element I put into my guest bedroom was the idea of making my guest feel this was there space and show them how welcome they are to be here. Being that we live in Orlando, Florida that makes my friends happy I have a guest bedroom. Have you ever traveled somewhere and tried to "get your bearings"? How far are we from the Keys? The first idea popped in my mind a general map needed to be on the wall. I wanted space for a place to put the luggage - I bought a wicker bench. I seen an adorable basket for snacks I purchased. I had a lamp in the room that was not guest friendly to turn on in bed so I found one that could easily be reached and turned on. I love pillows on the bed but I kept it to three so it would be easier for guest to get in bed. I get asked many times what our password for internet access by visitors. I made it easy by putting it in a picture frame on the dresser. I have seen where you can go online and make a QR code so your guest can scan it to get access. There's a book on the history of Orlando on night table. Sign says "Flip Flop til You Drop" When "designing" a room I naturally stuck with the coastal look. I'm going to tell you most my "finds" came from Goodwill, online yard sales, and thrift stores. The rest was elbow grease and fresh paint. The only things in the room that are NEW would be the bed, pillows and bedspread. The room had fully mirrored closet doors when we purchased the home, June 6th, 2014. This is embarassing for me to admit - this one "silly" item from India was the most expensive item in the room....Its the "Nose" it's for my guest glasses or sunglasses to take off and put on side table at night. (35.00). I'm pretty safe my husband is clueless he never reads my blog and he knows how I shop so I am sure he thinks it was a cheap trinket. Shhh. Here's the link to view my finished guest room: Not sure why but you have to click on this very tiny blue line to see the guest room. ---------> _ We'll let the pictures tell the story. This is all Before and the majority of it has been done in one day! Day two will be new flooring. I was thinking I could've used my shark steamer but I never rememberedto bring it with me the two trips I made to the house. I just used hot water and vinegar to remove the border.

175.98 covers the crafts and purchased furniture. Pirate Bed 150.00 on Overstock.com brings the grand total to 325.98 to furnish my daughter's house and provide toys for grandson on a Shoestring.
I did it for the challenge to show people you don't have to spend a fortune! The challenge is to find the deals and steals and still look like high dollar decor! Go ahead and cruise through the pictures above I have captioned them with some explanations. Tips: Tell people what you are looking for. Go to Goodwill with a plan. Just because you see a table today and its not exactly what you want don't buy it. Make your standard and wait til you come across it. Opportunities to buy some great finds at your local resale shops, thrift stores or Goodwill come around often. Don't get in a hurry. Facebook has "groups" all you have to do is in the search bar above your name is put in a search for : (Your town name) "online garage sale" and become a member. I find some great crafts on Pintrest and "pin" them on my boards. When it came to buying the house, I beat three other people who were offering ABOVE asking price. I got it for listed price. I won because we offered cash and no inspections. Banker's love those deals because its a very uncomplicated contract and closes fast! (2 weeks -our other house 8 days) If the homeowner took a higher offer and the inspections would come back with some sugestions the buyer may have tried to beat down the price and renogiated the contract or walked. As you can see - our contract offered none of those options- just close and accept the orginal asking price. That was our leverage. The rest of the project of getting her house was to use good old fashioned elbow grease. I even repurposed some items I found on the property. The garage had a dirty storage cabinet that I cleaned and put in contact paper and now using as a pantry. It takes imagination and creativity. If you think you don't have talent (like I once did) - spend time on pintrest. If you feel you have no idea ask your friends or a teenager "How To" it's a very popular social media tool to spark the imagination! Then just do it! I belong to a group on facebook for inspiration as well. There's a saying "You are the sum of your associations" surround yourself with creative and imaginative people and you become one! https://www.facebook.com/groups/1393304950971571/ If you "fail" change your prospective. Everytime I have failed and I have FAILED! I learn something! So its not failing! Please leave a comment I love hearing from you all! My daughter's bathroom. The cabinet base was a dark brown. The mirror above was white and nice enough to keep. Wanting to keep our spending in check we decided to sand and paint the base. We added new hardware. Simply square knobs we turned to look more diamond shape. The sink and faucet would make it look nicer but with a painted base cabinet it left me wondering what I could do with the counter!!!
I love pintrest. I seen somewhere a person used the stone type spray paint. I am the queen of spray paint! I couldn't even begin to tally everything I have spray painted. One of my favorite projects was spray painting my shutters on the house. The counter top - my go to thing? Spray paint. Now this is my second favorite spray painted project. The secret is sanding to rough up the surface and letting the paint DRY throughly between coats. Also when you spray you want to "swipe" the color on. Not a continious spraying motion - you want to aviod runs. Two coats of the hammered rustoleum and one coat of clear coat and viola a desingner counter! |
